The Southern University Museum of Art (SUMA) Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Programs will host Louisiana Poet Laureate, Brenda Marie Osbey.

On Thursday, January 26, Osbey will speak at select classes in the morning and afternoon followed by a reception and book signing from 5-8 p.m. at SUMA. 

On Friday, January 27, she will present a lecture and poetry reading at 11 a.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union.  The theme of the program is “African American Poetry in Antebellum Society.”

Osbey to read

Louisiana poet laureate Brenda Marie Osbey will speak at the Southern University Museum of Art, G. Leon Netterville Drive, beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26. Osbey’s appearance is part of the event’s “African American Poetry in Antebellum Louisiana” theme. There will be a book signing following the event. Osbey will also lecture and read at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Southern University’s Cotillion Ballroom at the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union. A book signing will precede and follow the event. The events are open to the public.
